Crossed the finishing line!

I learned a lot of web based tools that are useful not only to my job but also to my personal life (I did not expect that much at first) through this entire course. Now I'm much confident with the new terminologies, web based searching and technologies. I'm very grateful that I had an opportunity to upgrade my knowledge with the help of many people!

Firefox - My new Browser

This is an exciting tool. I always needed a separate browser because I lost my web pages by mistake so many times and had to start all again. Not only that this browser gives me many options and tools to set up my own browsing function (Not yet fully explored). I downloaded several functions from Firefox add-ons and Internet explore added-ons and began to use them.

I found bookmarklets are very useful. I love my del.icio.us and installed Morris book marketlets page. I do not use Morris marketlets a lot since I'm in tech. service at the library. It could be very useful at the reference desk (I guess...)

Game Week

Very Busy at work since I have to face my real life - fiscal year ending clean up. Another reason to delay my post - I never liked to play games not even simple puzzles even though I always collected game CDs in the cereal boxes for the kids. I needed some motivation to start learning some games.

But finally, with the help of Amanda's instruction and Alex's kind demonstration, I explored some games;

Most of the games needed some installation on my computer, I tried Sudoku. Alex showed me how to create his hero to defeat his enemy in his own game account (I believe it's "Dungeons & Dragons"?) Then tried to understand how the "Second life" works. But again, without buying the properties there it's hard to taste how it really works. But I could see the basic idea. Free logging on does not seem to give you much privileges.

My biggest question remains: Games and Academic library - How will it work?

After one week Break...

*Google Docs & Spreadsheets ... Did not know such tools exist on the web! But one problem - Why would you use the product on the web? I would rather use them in my computer and save them there safe. At first I thought it will be useful for our dept. Wiki since I could not edit the spreadsheet there. But Debbie showed me how to do them on the wiki page easily.
*Snipshot ... Nice tool for editing the picture before I got the message "too big" like this one left.
*Redkid and Library thing ... Surely they will be very fun and useful. But do not have time now. So many things to do around my desk. Just bookmarked them.
*Facebook ... Figured out how it works! Who is whose friend... who is in what group... networking... connecting each other... and many pictures...but getting hard time to enjoy them. Instant, unlimited exposure of yourself on the web... I need time to adjust myself, but probably not for a while.

Del.icio.us / Flickr

Finally, I organized my web-related links using this tools. My side bar looks cleaner and easier to look for the links I want to open. Thanks to the technologies and the teachers.
